Perimeter data is derived from data produced by GIS specialists working on each incident.
ESRI File Geodatabase
The Geospatial Multi-Agency Coordination Group, or GeoMAC, is an internet-based mapping tool originally designed for fire managers to access online maps of current fire locations and perimeters in the US. Perimeters are submitted to GeoMAC by field offices. The GeoMAC team attributes the perimeters using various sources, and then posts them on the GeoMAC website and to an HTTP site for downloading. This file contains all the latest fire perimeters that were processed by the GeoMAC team between 2000 and 2018. The projection is geographic and the datum is NAD83.
This geospatial dataset contains wildfire perimeter data for use in the GeoMAC application.

Perimeter data in this geospatail dataset is not the final or official perimeter for any incident and is provided for informational purposes only. The final official perimeter should be obtained from the host unit which can be determined by looking at the Unit Id for any specific fire. The host unit is responsible for producing official and final perimeters for all incidents in their jurisdiction.
Unless otherwise states, all data, metadata and related materials are considered to satisfy the quality standards relative to the purpose for which the data were collected. Perimeter geospatial data was downloaded daily from several locations - including but not limited to the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) FTP site, Wildland Fire Decision Support System (WFDSS) and the National Incident Feature Service (NIFS).

Downloaded data was attributed using information from various sources, including but not limited to the firecode system, Situation Report information and the Integrated Reporting of Wildland-Fire Information (IRWIN) system (2014 - 2018). The perimeters were then loaded into the SDE database located at the USGS Geosciences and Evironment Change Science Center (GECSC).
